Introduction.

Ce recensement des pneus en mousse pour la catégorie piste 1/12° électrique n'a pas volonté d'être exhaustif, mais sera peut-être réactualisée dans le futur. Il est en effet né de l'irritation de ne pas pouvoir trouver d'informations convenables sur la plupart des sites des fabricants et a pour but d'essayer de centraliser quelques informations de sources plus ou moins fiables sur les différentes références et leurs utilisations. En effet, les désignations des pneus en mousse chez les fabricants ne sont pas normées. Elles sont souvent faites sous la forme de couleur. Toutefois, une mousse désignée par la couleur "A" chez un fabricant "X" ne sera pas forcément identique ou même équivalente à une mousse désignée par la couleur "A" chez un autre fabricant "Y". Pire, chez un même fabricant, une même couleur peut désigner une mousse différente selon qu'il s'agisse d'un pneu avant ou arrière. Et ces fabricants, hormis de quelques exceptions, s'emploient souvent activement à ne livrer aucune information fiable à leurs clients.

Il est très important de savoir qu'une mousse ne se définie pas uniquement par sa dureté (mesurée en Shore). Beaucoup plus importante pour ses caractéristiques et surtout son comportement sur la piste est sa composition, notamment le rapport entre sa teneur en gomme naturelle et en gomme synthétique, mais également la densité de pores et leur géométrie. Sa qualité dépend également du sérieux du processus de fabrication, car les pneus sont découpés dans des plaques, dont les bords ont une densité plus grande que le coeur, et de son stockage et de son conditionnement, car les mousses sont sensibles à la température, à la lumière et au vieillissement!

Conseil: N'hésitez pas à échanger votre expérience sur les pneus avec de nombreux autres pilotes!

JFT (Japan foam Tire).

Le site officiel de ce fabricant japonais est annoncé comme étant en maintenance à l'heure de l'écriture de l'article. D'après les informations données, les pneus sont tournés d'origine pour l'avant à 46mm de diamètre pour 26mm de large, et à l'arrière à 46mm de diamètre pour 38mm de large. Ils sont montés sur des jantes à bâtons grises.Actuellement, ce sont les pneus parmi les plus appréciés en piste 1/12° électrique.

Sur le FaceBook du distributeur anglais Zen Racing, on trouve ces explications sur les pneus JFT:

"JFT Tyres: A short explanation of JFT and the range of tyres available for use in LMP.

JFT stands for Japan Foam Tyre. In the UK we currently offer three different families of foam - A, C & S. Please note that JFT uses the same foam for fronts and rears, so a C35 front is the same as a C35 rear (for example.) This is different from other brands where a Blue front might be different from a Blue rear.

Most people reference JFT tyres using a combination of the variety/family (A, C or S) in conjunction with the shore (30, 32, 35, etc.) This is easier than using colours, as there are common colours across the different families (both C and S have a blue, for example.)

A Foam = Pink/Magenta/Purple Family. These tyres have a high natural rubber content and therefore have the greatest oil content of the three types available. This makes them ideally suited to low traction conditions, though they can also help in high traction conditions if either of the other two types of tyre makes the car feel too ‘stuck’ as the high oil content will allow the tyre to slide over the oil surface. Common combinations (F/R) are A30/A30 or A32/A30.

Sur le site du fabricant (Speedtechrc.de), ou sur son FaceBook, on ne trouve aucun renseignement sur la nature des mousses employés et leur emploi. Les MobGums sont livrés montés et collés sur des jantes jaune fluorescente. D'après les informations données, les pneus sont tournés d'origine pour l'avant à 45mm de diamètre pour 26mm de large, et à l'arrière à 46mm de diamètre pour 38mm de large.

Sur le site marchand R/C Kleinkram, on trouve le résumé suivant:

Sur le site du fabricant américain, si certaines pages concernant les pneus en mousse ne sont plus à jour (exemple), on y trouve nettement plus d'informations sur les mousses que chez bien d'autres fabricants, mais il faut parfois creuser un peu (exemple).

Pneu spécial théoriquement pour les pistes en moquette à extrêmement forte adhérence. Ne devient pas "gommeux" et ne se charge que très peu en crasse, contrairement à d'autres références. Si vous n'avez pas une extrêmement forte adhérence, la voiture va sous-virer. Mais si vous avez un châssis vicieux ou qui se retourne trop facilement, et que vous ne savez plus quoi faire pour corriger le tir, ce pneu permet de rouler proprement, sans forcément aller très vite au tour. Souvent le pneu de la dernière chance.

Le site John's BSR Racing Tires ne semble plus actualisé, car, bien que portant la même référence, les photos des magasins en ligne montrent des jantes noires, alors que sur le site officiel, elles sont encore blanches.

Plusieurs sources contemporaines rapportent que BSR montent également des pneus pour CRC et Jaco. Toutefois, Jaco n'existe plus depuis longtemps... Et il n'est pas sûr à 100% que les codes couleurs correspondent entre ces trois fabricants.

This is a low natural rubber compound. Special tire for insane traction carpet tracks. Does not get gummy like Purple. If you don't have insane traction you car will likely push with these.

This is a natural rubber compound. Popular front stock tire, carries good corner speed because it's firm. The foam this compound is made from gets more gummy late in a race. The more you run this compound the gummier and stickier it gets. A little more forgiving than some of the other fronts.

This is a natural rubber compound. This is the standard front tire for carpet in all classes. Its is used front and rear for 19T and Mod carpet and front and rear in all classes on asphalt.

This is a low natural rubber compound. It is just as hard as dbl. pink but it has FAR LESS traction. It is used to free up the rear of stock powered carpet cars for more efficiency and corner speed. This is the old standard rear carpet tire, most stock carpet racers use the softer yellow compound now for more forward grip.

Il était utilisée pour libérer l'arrière des voitures de la catégorie Standard sur la moquette pour plus d'efficacité et de vitesse de passage en courbe. C'était l'ancienne référence en terme de pneu pour la catégorie standard sur la moquette, la plus part des pilotes de Standard utilisaient actuellement du Jaune qui était plus mou pour favoriser l'adhérence longitudinale (plus forte accélération).

This is a natural rubber compound. Its softer than dbl pink so if you need more steering than dbl. pink use these up front. If you need more rear traction than dbl. pink use these in the rear.

This is a natural rubber compound. This tire is used in mod 1/12th on carpet and asphalt if the traction is low. If the traction is high it will lock in the rear of the car and make it push.

Etait considéré comme un must en pneu arrière, composé d'une fine bande extérieure de Gris (Grey) et le reste en Jaune (Yellow). La bande extérieure protégeait la gomme Jaune, un peu fragile mais performante.
